Obituary

JONESVILLE, Va. - Beau Allen Garrett, 44, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday (Nov. 23, 2005) at this residence following a courageous battle with brain cancer.

Beau was born in Pennington Gap, Va., and lived most of his life in the Stone Creek Community before moving to Jonesville in 2000. Beau was a 1980 graduate of Pennington High School and employed by Adelphia Communications before his illness. He was an avid golfer, hunter, fisherman, Washington Redskins and Oklahoma Sooners fan. He was a member of Admant Missionary Baptist Church in Stone Creek. He was a loving son, a great brother, caring uncle and faithful friend who never met a stranger.

What a great guy my brother was! I never would have thought he would be such a wonderful person when we were fighting as kids. I learned all too well he had a powerful left hook that unfortunately, was also accurate.

One of the funniest things I remember him doing was being in the womanless homecoming queen contest his senior year. He wore a terrible looking wig, my bikini and his hunting boots : -)

He graduated high school in 1981 and found college wasn't for him. He worked at different jobs and when he got a job at Century Cable, he loved his work. It was a perfect fit for him and he was good at it. He was outside a lot and talking to people, which was what he liked to do. He loved to golf, but took the time to hunt in November as well. He remained an Oklahoma Sooners and Washington Redskins fan and had enough fishing tackle and bait to open his own store. He became a chef of sorts, deep frying turkey for the family at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Everything Beau did as an adult was with love, honor and integrity and he became a man among men.

When he was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2003, he accepted his cross and carried it humbly, telling our Mom before his surgery it was a road he had to walk alone. I was blessed to have been with him during what were no doubt the hardest years of his life. I got to spend a lot of time with Beau while he was in the hospital, at Health South and then also taking him to and from Health South for therapy when he was discharged. We had lunch together on many of those days as well. I will always cherish the time God allowed me to be with him; just me and him talking about anything -and everything. I learned about television cable lines and what those 'snow shoe' shaped things are. I always think of him when I see one.

Beau always was willing to help anyone with anything. He was a generous, kind person. He helped move not only Wayde and I into our new home, but he helped a lot of people do the same thing, even using his vacation time to help others. He offered his hand openly and helped so many people along the way. Our family found out just how many people loved him when he was diagnosed, and of course again when he died. I can't believe it has been over a year since he left us. I think about him everyday and cannot wait until I get to see and hug him again. I love you, pal.
